Micro Swiss All Metal Hotend Kit Features:

All metal hotend upgrade for MK10 style extruders. This upgrade includes a modified thermal barrier tube and modified nozzle with modified cooling block. Thermal barrier tube is made from 2 different materials. The lower thermal break is made from stainless steel, and the colder upper part is made from aluminum. Stainless steel was used for thermal break because it offers low thermal conductivity, and aluminum was used for the upper portion because it has a lot better thermal conductivity, to carry away any heat from the filament. All metal hotend will let you print at much higher temperature than possible with the original PTFE lined one. Another benefit of an all metal hotend design is more consistent melt chamber control. During slow extrusion rate, in PTFE lined hotend, transition zone from solid to molten plastic tends to creep upward creating more stringy prints. With all metal design a transition zone is always constant, being located right at the heat break. With a fast extrusion rate, PTFE tube doesn't have enough thermal conductivity to properly melt all the plastic coming out. On MK 10 extruders that limitation happens around 60 mm/s, depending on nozzle size. All metal hotend solves this problem, plastic is surrounded by thermally conductive nozzle throughout its length.

Works well, was easy to install.

I'm salvaging an old printer for learning purposes, including ABS printing, so got this to replace the version with the PTFE heat break. In part I was willing to take the leap based on Joel's video on YouTube, and it was indeed easy to install. Seems to work fine, but I'm not QUITE to ABS, yet (it's a process).

Great hotend

purchased after stock hotend got clogged. Very easy installation and works great! Pricey but worth the cost.

The best upgrade

This has got to be the best upgrade I've ever added to my Monoprice Maker Select Plus (Wanhao i3 clone). High quality, perfect fitting, detailed instructions. I've been using it for two years now with flawless results both with PLA and PETG. I've just tuned the retraction and temeprature settings and added a tl-smoother to the extrusion motor channel.

I can now print with PETG

I have a Monoprice Select v2 and wanted to print with PETG. I could not get the hot end temperature high enough to get a reliable print. I installed the Micro Swiss all metal hot end kit and I can now print with PETG. I have no problem getting the temperature of the hot end up to 250 degrees C. I've been using the Micro Swiss kit for about 6 months with no problem.

I have had problems switching back to printing PLA as some PETG remains in the nozzle and then plugs the nozzle during the PLA print. The Micro Swiss hot end stays clean and it appears the filament is only melting when it reaches the nozzle. As a result I switch nozzles when changing between PLA and PETG. So far so good.
